April 24-26, 2018 Russian Association of the Wind Industry (RAWI) held a seminar/business trip on the construction site of the Ovelgönne wind farm in Germany. The seminar was held with the support of WestWind Energy. Under company’s belt there are 50 wind farms built, 20 years of experience in planning, construction and subsequent maintenance of wind farms. The wind park includes 14 Enercon E-126 wind generators with 4.2 MW of capacity each. The trip agenda included the visit to the wind farm under construction, monitoring the installation of wind generators, answering the questions asked by qualified specialists, a seminar on the creation of a successful wind farm project, a final dinner with the management of Westwind Energy, and a business lunch with company managers. The seminar was attended by representatives of five companies from Russia who met not only with the management and operating personnel of Westwind Energy, but also with the contractors and line crew of the company at the site of the wind farm. In addition, the technical staff of the company Enercon spoke in detail about the installation of the newest wind generators of the E-126 with a capacity of 4.2 MW. As is known, Enercon wind generators are considered to be the most advanced on the world market with the high-end technologies used during their design stage. One of the features of the 4-megawatt Enercon platform wind generators is the “assembled” blades. For example, each of the 61,5-meter blades of the wind farm in Ovelgönne consists of two parts assembled before installation on the site, which greatly simplifies the transportation of the largest component of the wind turbines. In Germany, the construction of a wind farm is carried out in the shortest possible time not only due to the high degree of market development and technology perfection, but also due to the high density of wind farms, which makes it possible not to conduct wind monitoring in most cases using the data of a neighboring wind farm, which saves at least 12 months. The participants of the seminar also learnt a lot of details from the field of land lease relations between the land owner and the developer keeping in mind the practice of relations and systems for the formation of financial relationships, the construction of schemes of power distribution to the grid. The Association will continue the practice of visiting the wind farms and production facilities for members of the Association and market members.
