An agreement to this effect was signed at the Eastern Economic Forum between the Sakhalin Oblast Government and NovaWind. The agreement relates to cooperation in the implementation of wind power projects in the region.

After exploring the potential for wind farms in Sakhalin, NovaWind plans to build several wind farms with a total installed capacity of up to 200 MW. The wind farms are scheduled to come online in 2024.

Commenting on the signing of the agreement, Alexei Belik, Chairman of the Sakhalin Oblast Government, noted that the wind power facilities will improve the reliability of power supply on the island for the population and the economy. Sakhalin pays special attention to energy diversification. The availability of wind power plants will make the island’s power system, which is isolated from the mainland and cannot rely on external power supply in the event of generation failures, more sustainable.

JSC NovaWind, Rosatom’s wind power division, was founded in 2017. Today, the company has already built wind farms in Russia with a total capacity of 660 MW, and plans to double this figure to 1.2 GW by 2024.
