Following the purchase of the Salynskaya and Tselinskaya wind farms with a combined capacity of 200 MW in Kalmykia, the total capacity of wind power assets owned by the joint venture formed by Fortum and Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) amounted to more than 600 MW. In December 2020, the fund’s portfolio included wind farms with a capacity of 350 MW operating in the Ulyanovsk and Rostov Oblasts.
The Wind Energy Development Fund (WEDF) established by RUSNANO and Fortum was the investor in the construction of the Salynskaya and Tselinskaya projects. Later, RUSNANO’s share in the project was acquired by the RDIF. The wind farms were built using locally-made equipment and now operate in the Russian unified power system. The wind power plants have been supplying electricity and power to the wholesale market since December 1, 2020.
The fund’s sale of the facilities is related to the completion of the investment phase of this project. Now, Vetroparki FRV will continue further implementation of Russia’s largest wind power investment programme, which envisages commissioning of wind farms with a total capacity of 1,823 MW by 2024.
