Severstal began supplying steel plates to the VetroStroyDetal plant for the construction of wind turbine towers. Deliveries are carried out within the agreement signed between the companies.
Severstal will supply about 25,000 tons of metal by the end of 2021. The metal will be supplied from mill-2800 at Cherepovets Steel Mill and mill-5000 at the Kolpino production site (part of Severstal Russian Steel division).
Severstal also supplies steel billets to the wind power industry in Russia using its own rolled metal products.
“We see a lot of potential in the development of renewable energy. Now Severstal has become not only an investor in the Russian wind power industry, but also the Russia’s top supplier of steel plates for the construction of wind turbines,” said Kirill Kiryushkin, Senior Manager for the Energy Division at Severstal.
VetroStroyDetal’s modular steel tower production plant is located in Volgodonsk, Rostov Oblast. The company completed the main stage of construction and installation works under the investment project in 2019 when the plant was re-equipped with modern high-tech equipment. As of today, the producing capacity of the plant is 160 modular steel towers (MST) per year.
