Colonia Spezialfahrzeuge applied a brand-new Liebherr crawler crane LR 1800-1.0 for the first time during the construction of a wind farm in Cologne, Germany.

Three Liebherr (a member of the RAWI) service personnel from a plant in Echingen, Germany and from a repair facility in Oberhausen, Germany actively supported the team of Colonia with the first erection of the crane. After a few days, the LR 1800-1.0 towered a 171 meter main boom and a 12 metre luffing jib.

To lift heaviest components of a wind turbine weighing 89 tons to an imposing height of 160 metres, the crane operator had to press pinpoint accuracy into service.

Having utilised the LR 1800-1.0 crawler crane, Colonia Spezialfahrzeuge erected a total of four wind turbines at the large-scale wind farm.

Colonia Sales Manager Thomas Reuther said, “We bought the full version of the crane, and in addition to the wind power equipment, we have various main boom versions and a set-up configuration with a luffing jib available. That enables us to carry out major industrial work or hoist bridges. The crane is one hundred percent variable and can be used in many different areas.”
