On 1 June 2020, the Gukovskaya WPP started supplying electricity and power to the wholesale market for electricity and power (WMEP) with an installed capacity of 100 MW. The wind power plant became the third completed facility of the Wind Energy Development Fund (a joint investment fund created on a parity basis by PJSC Fortum and JSC RUSNANO) in the Rostov Oblast.
The Gukovskaya WPP consists of 26 Vestas (RAWI member) wind turbines with a unit capacity of 3.8 MW. Manufacturing of the main components – blades and towers – was localised through the agency of the RUSNANO Group in Ulyanovsk and Taganrog (Rostov Oblast). Nacelles are now assembled at the plant in Dzerzhinsk (Nizhny Novgorod Oblast). The local content contribution of the wind turbines has been confirmed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia at the level of over 65%.
In order to clearly pass the technological connection procedure, the specialists of the STC UPS, JSC (Moscow branch), members of the STC UPS Group, have developed a power distribution scheme (PDS) for the Gukovskaya WPP. The work included a study of a large number (more than 15) of options for the implementation of PDS for the search for the optimal composition of measures to ensure that the implementation of technological connection of such a large facility would be done in a short time and with the least capital costs.
As the Gukovskaya WPP comes online, the total capacity of the Fund’s wind farms in the Rostov Oblast reaches 300 MW. The portfolio of the Fund’s projects completed in the Rostov and Ulyanovsk Oblasts consists of four wind farms with a cumulative capacity of 350 MW. Projects with a total capacity of 476 MW are at various phases of implementation.
The Wind Energy Development Fund was established by partners to invest in the construction of wind farms. The Fund is managed by the Vetroenergetika Managing Company, which belongs to Fortum and RUSNANO in equal shares. According to the results of competitive selection of investment projects for construction of generation facilities based on the use of renewable energy sources, the Fund has been awarded the right to build 1823 MW of wind power. The wind parks are to be put into operation by 2024.
